Still alive!

If y'al thought that activity from my side of the world was a bit low and that I was only absconding cause it was exams, then what do I say...your thinking is wrong. It was my modem that was such a pain in the Bee-High-and-uhh!

I got it exchanged after a long and hard fought battle with the authorities(long story) and also after recovering from a fever that seemed to be as bad as the one I had in 10th ("The fever of '02".... "ooooh!") I am back, and I will be backer after some time.

Last battle will be fought tomorrow. Along with the project Viva the day after.

And yes, as usual, I have screwed up all my exams yet another time, in case you were wondering if things changed a lot in between.

Meet you when I return from my very last screw up. Good luck to fellow warriors.

Responx-kabiliky

One fine morning, after a rainy night,
I recalled the sound, I heard, at midnight.
It was the whine of puppies, definitely puppies you see
but Plutos unleashed, I didn't know how it could be

He is one jealous dog, my best bud Plu
Any other mutt near me, he gets the Flu
how would he let any puppies in??
Yet, wonder of wonders, there was a din

I dunno about cats, but it had surely rained dogs,
which I found out before my morning jog
Two cute puppies on my door step
and nearly 7 months later, its on my blog :)

Yes. It ain't just a poem, there actually were these two cute puppies who decided to make my home theirs, all of a sudden one rainy night. Pluto, who is such a big bully with most dogs, had cuddled up with them, all warm and dry.

Before we go further, Do you know about how nature takes care of orphaned puppies? It may sound cold, but its actually a good thing. Street dogs lay their litter in dumps and drainages, and sometimes they die for many reasons after giving birth. The puppies, whose existence is unknown to the rest of the world, wait for their mommee all day, and when they get really hungry and mommy ain't home for long, they go into deep sleep. Deep sleep..deeper sleep, and finally just die. Nice and easy along with their brothers and sisters.

The first time I heard this story was when I found a similar orphaned litter way back in 9th grade and a wise old lady told me about how they will soon die. Their mum had come under a road roller. The eternal dog lover that I am, rushed all the puppies to an empty site at the back of my house and I know what you are thinking- NO! - they didn't die out of boredom just cause they were stuck with me!

One puppy from THAT litter (The litter of '99) went on to become my first Dog - Tiger :) Love you Tigs! (In heaven now). BTW, do you know those hutch ads with the master and dog they used to air? It was probably inspired by how Tiger used to follow me around the neighbourhood.

Zeeeeeeezip! Back to the present. Next 1 week I had the honourable job of making sure our new guests were alive. You know why it's something to blog about? Because 2-3 week old puppies eat half a bread each and once every hour!! (And boy do they also sleep a lot!!.)

Now that must be what they call..what was that.. uhh...ummm Responx-kabiliky !

After the first week, they started roaming around and now they sleep on the streets and almost the whole street feeds them more than any dog can eat :) Ofcourse, they do pay me a visit every now and then. Probably, livelihood is more important than life, which is why they prefer to sleep near the homes of the people who feed them day and night. We are content with taking care of Plu!

Anyway, that was one of the best ONE WEEK of my recent life. Check out why:

Photos taken by Kavs who came shouting and jumping to my place to check out the pups-

This is what I call Raining Cats & Dogs!

Mooning event: The Black guy really hates Shoaib Akhtar

zzzzzzzz

Uhhh...Whats all that noise?

Ohhh hello. Can we sleep now?

--
Have guys like these, playing on your lap for a week and you will know why you need to feed that street dog in your lane 4 pieces of bread each day.

Woof!

Some Myths about - ME!

# I am a complete jerk

Of course I am not a complete jerk. Some features are missing. But I will get there, if I keep getting fcuked around.

# I am moody

wtfh! Moody? I have been in the Mood for Mischief for the last 22 years 10 months and 20 days and only that mood. How can being in just one single mood and be moody?
Eat mud!

It's the kind of stuff people tell about me to other people (read bakra) to make sure I never end up with a decent chick! Its a God Damned Conspiracy theory - be warned.

When this Myth was new I had the freaky community giving me all sorts of suggestions -

"You need to meditate"

"There are bigger problems in life...blah blah"

"Have you tried yoga?"

Yoga my ass!

# I hate women and I am a womaniser

I wanted to combine two common Myths here.
The first one is created by Girls.
The latter is created by boys.
A message to all those boys n girls who propogated this Myth, you were not completely wrong, I do hate you!

#I am a linux geek
Sorry. I just have linux like almost every other guy in class and I browse forums.
I
can't
won't
shan't
be a linux geek any day. Nor do I intend to make that impression, so don't ask me your hi-fi linux doubts when you already have the solution.

# I go to betta alone

No! That's the kind of stuff Aditi spreads for God knows what reason. I have gone there nearly a thousand times, sometimes 7 times a week and every time with a huge bunch of friends.

Trust me, betta or no betta, I am not kinda guy who likes to go places alone.

# I am a good programmer

LMAO. That's the kind of stuff the real talents in my class say to avoid being mobbed by people who want tips on coding! I'm neither a geek nor a nerd. I can write a C program to calculate 2+2 or something of that sort. Anything beyond that is rocket science for me.

# I am under weight

According to my physician I am exactly half a kilo above the lower bounds of the healthy range for my height!
Take that a full half a kilo - IN YOUR FACE BUGGA!

# I am good looking

You know one of those yahoo profiles you go to when you click on the 'view profile' option on the display image on your yahoo IM window? Well. A Junior from school was chatting with me after a long time..here is the conversation copy pasted, names removed

Her: hiiiiiiii
Me: hello how are you

Her: I'm fine re, how are you?

Me: Im good too..

//--

Blah blah for 5 such IMs
suddenly..
//--

Her: Oh my god..
Me: What? What happened?

Her: Who is that person?
Me: Where?

Her: I clicked on your image and a new page opened up..
Me: what image what page?

Her: and then some hideous person. oh I can't look
Me: Hey..what are you talking about?

Her: You have that mouse picture no re?
Me: Yeah. Here? -------------->

Her: yeah. I clicked on it. It took me to some page. Oh, I dunno whose picture that is..

This got me a bit confused and I decided to open the profile and check it myself. I was wondering if I had been hacked or something. When the profile opened up, everything was quite normal, it WAS my photo. Something I had uploaded a few months ago and forgotten about.

Me: Are you sure you looked at my profile?

Her: Yeah!
Me: That's me only.

Her:But what happened to you?
Me: Why? Whats happened?

Her: Its ok, share your story with me...what happened to your face?
Me: Wait lemme see..

I paused for 60 seconds and..

Me: Oh that, thats not my pic. EEekk wonder how that got there. One of my friends must have played a trick on me...

Need I say more to bust this Myth? (btw, that particular picture has been deleted for the benefit of humanity)

And finally..just for the heck of it..

#I wrote this blog today

Aha gotcha again! I wrote it in April. Publishing the draft today. Only the second blog to go through to get published after entering the drafts section.

Don't Cheat on your girlfriend(s)

Hell hath no fury...

One fine day, when you are all alone walking in a dark lane, a rebellion of chicks, that goes by the name of Guldu girls or some name that I can't remember, ( What's in a name huh? ) and weird getups might run after you and beat you black and blue.

No sinner can get away from the ravenous claws of these scorned chicks! Think twice before you take on them...muhahahaha!

Btw, doesn't the guy resemble the Zuzu in the ad for dating tips?

Small mark Big meaning

Note: This post was supposed to come 2 weeks ago, but I am not waiting for 5 years to post it again!
-----------------------------------

" Please vote Please vote! "

I was tired of getting this message or message ending with that line for a whole month last month. I understand that you think you are a "concerned", socially "aware" citizen. But are you?

I had almost zero faith in the parties wooing for attention. Ultimately after a lengthy thought I decided to go for the party which according to me had educated people and a good mix youth and responsibility. Though there is no party which measures upto such a description, I did think there was one which came close to it. That is the only reason I cast MY vote.

Of course, I am not gonna tell you whom I voted for, hopefully you will all be mature about it. Cause another thing I am tired of is

"Who did you vote for? "
"Neevu Yaav party? (Which party are you?) "

FYI, I am not "any party". In fact, I don't like politics at all, one random read on my blog should tell you that. Any politics, is dirty politics. I hate diplomatic behaviour, and political people.Period.

Coming back to the point I was trying to make. I don't think a person should be exercising his/her right to vote just because its his/her right. A person must vote, only if he independently can understand why a candidate(or party) needs to form the government. Being more scientifically inclined, I choose to analyse a case rather than go by the outer presentation.

My dad does choose to tell me which party is right, which party is wrong and I do consider his arguments. But I think on my own.
I prefer to go through what someone did in the past rather than what their manifesto says.

Lastly, I don't like communal parties. I don't like the divide and rule policy. I don't believe in religions and borders. And definitely I practice that whole-heartedly rather than just speak about it. That's where the personal opinion part comes in while choosing.

Hope you get the point?
I don't say/believe that my analysis was right.
I am just happy that I analysed and so my vote has some weight thrown behind it.

Don't VOTE!
Unless you know Whom you are voting & Why you are voting.
Don't be a voter - Be a Thinking voter!

Raka International On drive spy

Recently, I found this new thing infecting the systems coming mainly from browsing centres etc,. called Raka International On drive spy.

Now, I am not sure what this thing is. I wouldn't wanna jump to conclusions saying that it's a virus or a trojan. Even the latest updated antivirus / antispywares on my system didn't recognise the thing. Even the firewall didn't report anything suspicious.

But I have enough reasons to doubt the thing-
1)It comes in uninvited - In other words , Infects!
2)More importantly, it calls itself "SPY"
3)Processes spring up unwanted and unwarranted

The only problem I have faced so far by this thing is that it hogs system capacity when it starts.
God knows what other damage it has done to my system. Since I found out a way to remove this thing, or so I think, I will list out the simple steps here.

How to remove Raka International On drive spy?

NOTE:
The steps are listed out in detail for novices, experts and "experts" please bear with it.
If you can't see the whole picture - Click on it to view it properly!

Step 1 - Remove raka open from startup process -

1. Go to start menu
2. Run
3. Type "msconfig" and press enter
4. Under Startup tab uncheck the option that says __rakopen.exe or something like that
(Actually I forgot what the exact name was, but it should be pretty obvious ;)
5. Don't click on 'ok' or 'apply' yet. Go to next step.

Step 2 - Remove Raka open from startup menu
1. Again, I don't remove the exact name and again it should be obvious.
2. Go to Start>All programs>Startup
3. Right click on '__rakopen.exe' or anything which seems to be Raka
4. Select delete
5. Now click on Apply in the startup window in step 1
6. Restart the system.

They call it version 1.0.6
In case it is a virus/trojan and they do come back with another version, they will make it much harder to remove the virus. I expect the antiviruses to detect and delete them by then!

This method must work for you. If it does or even if it doesn't, please tell me about it here in the form of a comment! Also tell me if you figure out what the exact names were so that I can make this description a little more accurate. Hope it helps a few people at least!

Savage Seminar

Well, if you all thought Perplexed was the limit. Wait till you hear my story!

First of all, our dumb dept made us give two seminars. Both on the same topic. First one just asks us to give a presentation. Second one has a presentation, a 20ish page report on it and 6 page technical paper for IEEE.

For no good reason, a brief background on how the idea of an additional IEEE paper was conceived:

Somewhere in the dark corners of the darkest offices in my college, two voices are deep in discussion -

"Hey, think of something which can be a pain in the ass for our students "

"Madam, how about an IEEE paper?

"I like your style"

"I am your humble follower your sadness"

"You are making me all wet with tears *sniff*. Anyway,my dear short psycho , lets go screw some students"

"Aye"

*Hugs & Kisses*
--
People who know me know that I am always on Damage-control mode. I have all the time in the world and somehow, it ain't enough!

First seminar:

*One hour to go for my first seminar
*My presentation ain't ready
*I dunno what my topic is (holo.. something)
*There is no power
*The central UPS system is down
*The notebook battery is dead

And I am busy calling P, Rohit, Nush,Kavs and anyone and everyone asking them if they have power and if I could go over and do it there.

As I am calling, the power returns barely 30 minutes before the seminar time and miraculously I am at the laboratory on time!
My dumb presentation conjured over 20 minutes but well hidden by my pretence of hard work and solid knowledge goes well and I suddenly feel like a king.

Second Seminar:

I am now feeling invincible. Nobody can beat me. I could pull the first one off in 20 minutes, I can kick some serious ass if I work for 3 days for the second one. Right?

I spend my days rehearsing loser lines like "Second seminar..I'm coming to get YOU!" and the like in my mind. I say that so many times that I loose track of days and finally BANG! It's 15th of April.

Hey what happens on 15th of April? My birthday? naah...is it my friends birthday? nooo..wait TODAY IS MY SEMINAR!!

Where the hell is my 20 page report, 6page tech paper and new presentation on my topic of Holo.. something?

I tell myself-
Relax. You can do this. You are the master of damage. I mean damage control. You can do it. Just sit.

There is nobody at home, so I don't get any coffee. I hurry pluto around the Neighbourhood almost forcing him to do his thing and I get back on my table and guess what? There is no power!

No power. No caffiene in my blood. No time. I wrote down on my things to do list "Stop being a loser" and begin to work, praying that the backup can last.

I start going tippy tippy tap tap on the keyboard for 4 straight hours punctuated by visitors, some bananas, 2 pieces of bread, water and a bath. And my report is done. Now the Presentation. It takes another 10 minutes because I just removed a few slides and added a few new ones to the old presentation..how pathetic??

The show-off is at 4:45 and I don't have much time left for that. I work on the paper for another half an hour and get ready to leave.

Now I must get everything right. First of all uniform.(Yes, my great college has one). Most of us don't wear it most of the times, but the nerds do.
Last time every single person had worn the uniform for the seminar, so I decided not to take chances this time either. After all, I had a pathetic set of papers to submit, I might as well not piss them off before hand.

Right. Now where is the uniform. OMG...WHERE IS THE dAMNED UNIFORM??? I hadn't seen them in months. I had not a clue where I had put them.
*The almirah ? - NO!
*The clothesline? - NO!
*The other room? - NO!

Where the hell is it??????

Ahh is that it? Yes. Alas, under the pile of rubbish it lay, the material of the moment..my uniform! Great put it on..put it onnnn!!
Done. Files - into pen drive. ok. done. what else? Nothing.

All set lets go.

While leaving I get the feeling, I have forgotten something. What is it? Well, no time. Go!

On the way I take out my cell and look at the time.

It's 5 fuckin twenty!

WHAT? I was supposed to be there half an hour ago! It's ok relax..relax, we will explain, you just relax.

I reach the college I climb up the stairs and suddenly remember that I am supposed to take the print out. I rush to a shop he says his printer aint working. He speed away to another shop and push my pendrive into a system there. Its not working.
I had brought a back up (haha!) I put that in, his USB port breaks. I put it in another one and finally I am taking print outs! Phew.

I am sure I forgot something...

While the 31 sheets of paper are getting printed, a cutie keeps giving me glances and I am thinking, good..glances are good, slows your heart rate. Glance back at her!

Soon- Im done. Lets go. I run up the stairs again, saying hello to a couple of people, and finally I am the lab doors. I slowly walk in, everyone turn towards me, some are laughing, the lecturers are hell serious and I think to myself

"Oh shit, get ready for your whoopin of ya lifetime..."

and just as fast as the anticipation had built, the lecturers turned their faces away, without a word or reaction. I go completely blank at this, but my legs somehow carry me over to an empty stool and settle me down. As I come to, Dee sitting next to me says

"Why did you wear uniform? It's wednesday"

And I looked around shocked, I am the only guy wearing an uniform in that lab.
WHY GOD WHY?? WHY ME??
I feel like running away and jumping off the top of the building.

Anyway, after some consolation, I pull a blanket over the guides eyes and make them believe I worked hard on my seminar, because my topic is more physics(my fav sub) and chemistry than software and electronics, which actually means, they just don't get it do they? Especially when I just lie to them about the things I don't know!

After coming out of this hectic day, I wonder.

When-will-I-Change?

You know what the worst part is? I still haven't found out what I had forgot..I am just wishing it is not important!

Tag

Now, this is completely new to me! My apologies to Miss Ping for overly delayed post.

I realised I am so set apart from the bloggers community(I'm not a blogger) when I started noticing this tag thing going on among bloggers and no matter how many times I noticed it, I couldn't understand it. I couldn't continue being ignorant when I finally got 'tagged' myself by Ping(Someone's stuff whom I ACTUALLY love to read-Interesting cause I don't like reading...Anything!). Thnx for that!

Now about the tag, the rule goes that I have to upload the 6th picture in my 6th folder and write a story about it and then ofcourse tag other people!

I dunno how you people organise your photos, but I have just folders and folders and folders...so to get to one picture, you may have to go through many folders!

Fortunately in my 6th folder there are two pictures of the same subject. So I am uploading one of them to talk about it!

Right!

Now, I know it doesn't sound very insane when I say that gardening is one of my hobbies. Well, I try!

Anyway, My mum told me about her childhood dream to have a lotus pond at home. So I made a pond for her and gradually my collection of lotus plants grew.

One such lotus plant is the White lotus which blooms only at night. The plant is not too hard to maintain and propogate. But if the flower blooms, then you can consider yourself REALLY lucky.

The lotus in my pond had bloomed for 3 years in a row and it had become so common that we stopped feeling anything special about it!

To make a long and boring story, short and boring, it stopped blooming and now after 1 full year, we had a white lotus in full bloom back in our household.

Yay!

No matter what the story sounds like, I know all of you guys, even the insensitive ones, can't help admiring the beauty of that flower in that picture. So remember, it was in my garden!

Though it didnt bloom after that, I am contented. It might after a brief break. Or so I hope.

Cheers!

And I gotta tag some people here...so lemme see, in alphabetical order -

One for the turtles

Mr.Tata, I'm your fan, but...
If you have read the news, the turtles did come back to nest. But that doesn't mean the greens are crying wolf. The turtles will gradually begin to avoid the beach. Why will Greenpeace launch its most expensive campaign ever if it doesn't even hold water?

List of people who "fooled" me!

Now, before I announce the result I would like to tell you. I know you all sucked big time in your efforts to try and fool me. Even the ones who fall into the list. But please don't loose heart. Try and try till you succeed(Next year)!

Anyway, this is a list only because I promised. But none of these "tricks" qualify as a ..well..."trick"!

Here they are - In chronological order:

- Pradeep a.k.a Podhe

- Kavs

- Koli

Please don't make me explain how they fooled me, cause then the fools will really be them!

But the best trick was from my friend "Mr.Houdini" - One of my closest pals!

This guy has been very close to me. I have followed him like a lost puppy from high school to PU to Degree course. And I can't even count the number of things he has helped me with and so many times! I dunno how I would have managed most of the things without him.

Ten years (Wow! I calculated that just now, I can't believe it). It was not just ten years of 'knowing him'. We were actually close friends all through the ten years. If I felt like meeting him, it took me a 2 minute ride to do so - any day - FOR A DECADE!!!

I wake up in the morning on the fools day to find the message from him:

I'll be leaving the city tomorrow.. wil work in Chennai for a year..do keep in touch..Good night! Shine on \m/

The Houdini hadn't kept in touch with me for about the last 3 months. I had left him a lot of messages and offliners asking him to get in touch with me the moment he got free from his hectic job. But apparently he hadn't been able to. The message clearly shocked me and woke me up completely.

I tried calling him immediately, but he was not picking up the phone.

A bit frustrated everything, I looked at his message again - Going away for a year!
I didn't know where the hell I was gonna be a year later. The future is completely uncertain like it always was. A lot of things suddenly rushing into my head making me kinda numb to a lot of things and I noticed his message sent time-

Ahhhh that filthy moron!! So I just text him " This is an April fools joke :) "

I spend the rest of the day with people who 'tried' and some 'succeeded' in fooling me. Finally in the evening when I least expected, Mr.Houdini calls me and this is how the conversation went.

Me(As soon as I picked up):
-I called you, you didn't pick up. You didn't reply either
H " Yeah, I saw that now. I was busy"

-Busy with what?

H "I'm really going. I am in the train now"

-Are you serious?

H "Yeah we all got transferred there.."

-I haven't heard from you for days

H "I was busy. I am staying in the same city and haven't even gone home properly"

-How often will you get online?

H "My net at home was disconnected. Nobody uses it any more. And I won't be coming online there either"

-I hadn't expected this, you know I am unsure where I will be after a year

H "Hmmm"

--silence--

Some formalities and 'Keep in touch' kinda words later the call is cut.

And I'll cut this write up before it starts to sound like the season finale of FRIENDS

"We want the last ten years back"

"So do we! SO DO WE!"

Movie at Pradeeps'

Pradeep's room has a very special place in the heart of my gang. Simply because it is our very own mini theatre. You know, when you look back at goner times, it is the small finer things that make you miss the past more than the bigger more seemingly important things. So before I feel like it's totally gone and can't get it back at all, I wanna write about it.

Pradeep's penthouse

Before you get nasty ideas, we are still talking about Pradeep's room. And don't you dare go visiting the penthouse website or else you will loose interest in this story!

Here is Pradeep's (a.k.a Podhe's ) picture -> Click here (since the title of the blog has his name I figured, you people can see him as well - This is a pic from the Kudremukh snaps remember them?)

For those severely unfortunate people who haven't had the pleasure of watching a movie in his room or simply haven't see it (yet) lemme give you a picture!

Pradeep's room, measures roughly 12x6 feet.(You see we are sort of the God of small things)

It has the following stuff

1 Computer with 17" Screen and pretty good speakers.

1 bed - Which ALWAYS slides over to the front when we are sitting on it and leaning against the wall.

2 Tables - One at the corner holds his book and second one on which his desktop rests in peace. The desktop is the heart of our entertainment mechanism. That's one machine I will definitely miss.

2 Chairs - out of which one chair is badly broken. Try placing your ass on that one and we will all be enjoying your freak show rather than the movie.

umm...Thats it!

Now lemme see , there are usually 7 of us who suddenly mob his place out of the blue when Pradeep is least expecting it.

Well it's usually like he is sleeping and suddenly we show up

"Pradeeeep...tak tak tak....Pradeeeep...open the door"

Pradeep (hereon with adressed as Podhe) gets up and

"Bande(Coming)"

*Opens the door*

There are, say, 2/3 of us shouting "Movie!Movie!Movie!" as he opens the door. He opens the door and we run in so fast and so madly that Podhe falls backwards onto the floor and has footmarks all over his body and face when we are done getting in.

When he finnally dusts himself and gets in, he turns on his desktop and tries to start some video usually something to do with greatest cricket catches in history or best of Shane Warne and stuff like that. As much as things like that just hypnotize me into watching them, I(we) start messaging vigourously to call the rest of the madhouse to place.

The movie:

Our choice of movies is pretty simply all guy movies. NO NOT PORNO you miserable jerks! It's more like runaway bots, psycho killers, save the world kind of movies that boys like to watch. If you think a bunch of boys like us get together to watch those kinda movies that your girlfriend has to force you to watch or that you will prefer when you are beyond 85 and devoid of all that testosterone THEN YOU ARE IN BIG MISUNDERSTANDING MISTER! - Just so you know. We cool right?

Selecting the movie to watch is our biggest challenge.

Podhe is shouting out weird Tamil and Telugu names which makes absolutely no sense to us.
No offense, but we have kind of a thing for Tamil and Telugu movies..umm..I dunno how to put it...its like we f*cking hate them!

You know it's normal for animals to attack and kill things that they don't understand. It just shows we still have our animal instincts intact.

'Thayan Kondha Veeran'
'Yemme iduttha Thoppai'
'Ni Thaatha na ajjiya boyfriend'
'Adjust pannitai'
'Naanu romba hot iraka'
'Poda thiruda -yenna favourite LKG rhyme'

Somebody is saying something - suddenly they fighting - next they are kissing - and then all of a sudden people are flying all over the place - which we have come to realise is a fight scene.

Subtitles don't really help that much. With subtitles its more like -
" Hey! I have a great idea to spend the saturday..why don't we watch the Subtitles of Bommarillu? "

"Wow dude! Great idea - you da koolest! "

Anywaaaaay...we are throwing old newspapers at Podhe for suggesting the bad movies!

It's usually like, I am the fool who resisted watching all the good movies so that we can watch it together.
And Rohit is the fool who has watched ALL OF THEM!

I am shouting - That one...THAAAT ONE...
He goes - Watched it....WAAATCHED ITTTT

P in the middle is shouting - Boring Boring

Finally all the guys settle for a majority while Podhe is still shouting
"Hey I have watched this one maaaan....I have watched it...I don wanna watch iitttt!!!! "

We are replying "Who asked youuuuu who asked youuuuu??? "
or we just turn deaf ears.

For our example - Deathrace!

Finally the picture starts:
1)We throw Pradeep (Theatre owner) on the floor who is still shouting that he doesn't want to watch that movie in HIS room on HIS computer.
2)4 of us settle on the bed (I always get my place on it)
3)while the other two manage to sit on the chairs.
Yes - one poor fella always sits on the broken chair. Somehow!
4)Ofcourse every 10 minutes, all of us sitting on the bed have to get up and push the bed back to the wall, because as I said earlier, it keeps sliding away to the front.
Don't even get me started on the curses we throw at Podhe for having such furniture which are a disgrace to wood!

Anyway, the movie -
Bliss! It's like, Y'know like...kinda like, gonna, sorta gain historical importance in the future!

(I know 75% of you went to check out the penthouse website and 75% of the remaining will go and check now)

Curiousity they call it.

There are barely weeks left, Have you watched a Movie at Pradeep's?

April fools day

The last post about my trip was what we call a hangup. It's one of those stories that completely halt your blogging activity until you are done with that one. Since I got that draft complete, published and out of the way, I am hurrying to post this one before the 1st of April.

This is just a crazy idea I thought of. Curious to see how its taken in.

I hate to boast, but I have rarely fallen for pranks.[Like almost never]

Reason 1: People don't try hard enough
Reason 2: Lets not beat around the bush, I am too smart for you :P

Ok, I can now see some blood boiling! Good - just what I want.

This sounds crazy, but quite normal on this blog. I want you to try and fool me on April Fools day.

The winner gets a brand new this. I am in a generous mood.

Well apart from that you also get your name in a list of "People who fooled me" published on my blog after the thing is done
"YAY!"

Why should that be an attractive offer to you?

1)You get to brag about it all your lives
2)For proof you get to show the list, which will never be deleted
3)If you are my college mate - This is probably your last chance!
4)Makes for good memories (Oh brother!)
5)Simply because you are someone who loves to have fun!

Well there are some rules.(come on, their are always rules):
1)I will decide if you fooled me (Trust me I am fair and sportive :P)
2)Your pranks gotta be extremely decent if you are gonna play it on me somewhere near my home
3)Please don't insult me :P
4)You can't do silly things like -
--------------->"OMG Look there" and say you fooled me when I looked.
--------------->Throw something on me - It's not fooling, It's...THROWING!
--------------->etc,.

And last rule is..
5)Rubs not allowed :D ("Like I wanted to")

I can already hear all the rotten heads going "Huh! Who wants to play his dumb game" while the fun lovers are like "Let's teach him a lesson"

I dunno what is gonna be worse - This idea or your attempts but,
all I say is - Good luck loooosers!

6 days of my life on the Indian Railways

If you want to see the real side of our country, take it from me, travel by train! If you are catching up now with what was happening with me, I went on a long journey. Where, when, forget all that. But it was in a train and it was 6 days long totally - and I am here to speak about the TRAIN.Right!. Initially, I was worried about travelling alone. Thieves, robbers, missed trains, luggage...list is endless and scary.

Whats worth a blog about all this, is really the colourful characters on tour. I made friends in so many shapes and sizes. Few of them and some others are mentioned here.
I realised how many people lived a huge portion of their lives between the chugging and creaking belly of this metallic monster!

The first trip to the state capital itself was quite a beginning. Almost all the messages I was getting as the train left, were queries of whether I was sitting next to a girl or if I had one in my compartment. It went from funny to freaky on the avalanche of the common question. Feeling good that people will keep me company with their messages during the entire trip (Though almost none of you did - screw you :P ), I replied patiently.

Well, the answer to that question was - Yes. There WAS a chick in my compartment. And also a tourist(Western chick). I didn't speak to either of them, but I did try to speak to a middle aged Marathi couple, though the guy didn't seem even minutely interested in conversing with me. He was more interested in speaking to the westerner , who was more interested in the book that I was reading and I was more interested in finding something entertaining. We had our very own love triangle here!

I did get my entertainment when the 50+ guy was trying his best to capture the tourists attention(His wife conveniently had left to speak to someone in the next compartement)...with questions like -

- You! Where you?
"America"
- Ohh? Americaaaaaaaa?

- You marriage? Marriage you?
"I'm single"

- Why no marriage? How many years you? 26 noooo?

"No I'm 29"
- ahh 2 years different

- In India 90% of love marriage fail. In America all arranged marriage or love marriage?
"We don't have arranged marriages in America"

- Oh full love marriage? Full? Fulllll?? How much love marriage work?
"It's not as bad as 10% success rate as you mentioned, I would put it at 70% success.

- What happened with rest 40% ?
(This guy deserves the Nobel prize in Mathematics)

"If they don't succeed...I guess they fail?"

- Oh sad. How situation in America?
She thought for a really long while and finally said
" Most of us now prefer live-in relationships"

The guy turned to me really puzzled, and for the first time in nearly 3 hours he initiated a conversation with me by asking
-What did she say?

I just shrugged and turned away, not knowing how to translate and explain this in a short and clear way.

6 days of my life on the Indian Railways- Part 2

Next journey began from a different junction in the same city. It was one helluva ride getting there from the main station. When I finally got there, thankfully, people were still keeping me company through SMS. Worth mentioning since that was the only company I had in that overcrowded station.

People, people everywhere, not a person to speak.

People who have to go places, who have to buy packaged drinking water, people who have to beg, people who have to eat...

-->My mum keeps telling me, that I can strike a conversation even with a stone.
-->One of my friends keeps telling me that it will be extremely rare for me to feel alone. Her explanation is that I keep myself company (Something to do with the twin soul of a Gemini) at any point. Apart from the twin Soul part, I agree with both of them.

When I found my berth for the next journey I was curious to see who my companions were. It was going to be the longest journey of the trip. My ears straining for the sound of my mother tongue somewhere - anywhere and then entered a guy who would speak just that, along with a family of 4 who did too. There was also a sardar, the most handsome one I have seen. The first guy was a PWD fella and I made friends with him.

But the trip was quite boring. As soon as I left the state border that night at around 11, my outgoing SMS were blocked and it seemed like my world completely forgot me.

Sleep was the most expensive commodity there, especially with the chilly winds blowing up to my cramped top berth. The berth was only 6 feet long. So it would have just managed to let me sleep if it wasn't for my kit, making me bend and twist and cramp in that little room of space.

I went to bed alone and woke up next to a bunch of bodily niggles. The Train was moving through bidda country ;) I saw vast lands, barren without use. They were barren as far as the eye could see. Not even mountains or shrubs. Just land. I was reminded of all the bloodshed caused back at home over pieces of land on which you could hardly stand, let alone build homes.

The rest of the day was a quite a bore, I couldn't read much of the book because the compartment was so crowded at day time. I would take out my cell every hour to see - No new messages. My world really had forgotten me.

I was supposed to reach Bhopal my next stop at 11:20 at night, but the train was two hours late. I had never visited this city before and I was tense I would mess up. I had sit under unfolded sleeping berths. For two hours I was the only soul awake in the whole compartment. Most of the stations in those hours did not have station names. Barely two minutes before Bhopal arrived, an old couple came over and told me they were getting off at Bhopal. [Testimony of the existence of my Guardian Angel.]

When I did get off at Bhopal, I had all the time till 3:30 AM to wait for my next train to my final destination.
I chained my bags to a pole at the really huge and yet deserted station.
Took out some things to eat.
Set to charge my cellphone on a power socket I found there.
Pulled out my bed sheet and wrapped it around myself. It was damn chilly.

I must have looked really weird, cause almost everyone among the few travellers there were looking at me like I was a mass murderer or a rapist, just waiting to pounce on them. All of them avoided me a little too apparently and made sure they settled down at least 50 feet away from me, as they waited for their own train.

Oranges I had bought at Nagpur, Roasted cashews from aunt and Candies from Keerthi aunty (my neighbour) helped me look preoccupied as I tried to convince all of them that I was not as desperate as I was probably looking.

After watching the red LED digital clocks hanging from the ceiling for two weeks, I mean, hours, the train arrived which made me go -

OH....MYYYYYYY...GAAAAAAWWWWWWDDDD!!!???!!

I am gonna be on this for 12 whole hours???????

The train looked like it had the entire Madhya Pradesh in it. I hate crowd. No really. If there are a little over 10 people, I try not to be there. This dabba had 1o million gazzillion humans(and as I later found out even more rats) packed like sardines! Fighting against an urge to shout and scream and run away, pulling my hair out, I took a deep breath and jumped into the sea of people.

S4 seat 72!

Old man on 69...Some lady on 70....jerk on 71...gays on 72....WHAT?...ummm excuse me...is this berth 72?

"kyaji?"

"kya yeh 72 hain?"

"hanji..kyon?"

"Yeh meri seat hain"

"Nahin yeh meri seat hain. Aapki tikat main koin galti hain jake TT ko batadijiye"

[Basically two guys, yes guys, were in my seat and they were pretty sure it was their seat and that I had a problem with my ticket - I was too sleepy to think anything up soon]

I'm sleepy, I'm cold, I'm alone and this situation just made me go...oh great I'm f*cked!

6 days of my life on the Indian Railways - Part 3

Two guys, yes guys, were in my seat and they were pretty sure it was their seat and said that I had a problem with my ticket (- I was too sleepy to think anything up soon)

After dismissing me he went back to sleep with his friend on the top berth. I gave the warm couple a long puzzled look. I had the deepest urge to just fall onto the dirty floor of the train and go to sleep immediately. But I decided to go and enquire with the TT.

As I was going, these two police fellows stopped me and asked when I was hurrying around? (They noticed huh?) and as I explained one of them replied -

"Yeh sab tho common hain. Jake un choron ko do lagao kaan ke neeche, thumhara seat mil jayega"
(Don't fall for this, go and slap them hard near their ears, you will get your seat)

Finally waking up to this nonsense completely and now pretty angry I stormed back to Seat 72 (S4) and woke up of the guys (Now they were hugging each other tightly - seriously) and asked

-Can I see your ticket please?

"Jee bilkul" (Sure)
and he produced a ticket for the general compartment and my anger just shot up exponentially

"Kya samajthe ho? Eh General compartment ka ticket hain"

"Lekin TT ke chart main entry huva hain" (But the TT has entered this in his chart)

"Neeche utharthe ho ya main khud tumhe utharu? " (You better come down)

Listening to our conversation, everyone in the compartment got up..

"Main nahin aaonga" (I'm not coming down)

Next, I did something really stupid, I reached out and held his collar, hoping that he will get down when he realises I am forcing him down. But he had crossed his legs and was sitting firmly, so as soon as I gave him a little tug on his collar, he landed

THUMP!

onto the train floor from the top berth. Over 7 feet of crash landing. As I say at the back of my mind - "Ouch! That's gonna leave a mark" I am in shock. What have I DONE!!!??

This fool, calmly gets up dusts himself, even as his dumber friend climbs down and runs away towards the open area near the toilet, and he looks at his luggage in the top berth.

Now, if there is anything good I have to say about my extremely rare yet violent bursts of anger, it must be of how soon I cool down.

I immediately ask him,
-shall I get your luggage for you?

"Haanji" (with gratitude - all of a sudden)

Soon he is off.

When I tell mum that night about the minor scuffle she goes berserk
"Dont get into fights now..doom doom dish tush..".

I finally had a place to sleep!

" Expecting the world to be fair to you is like hoping a lion wont eat you because you are vegetarian "
--
Unkown(to me)

Next morning, after sleeping solid for about 4 hours, I wake up two find a lot of detail about the train that I missed last night in the darkness. It had rats running around EVERYWHERE!

Hey, I'm not complaining. No sir! I am just appreciating the ecological balance of the train. Humans and wildlife, coming together. Living in harmony.

I saw one guy walk and started talking so much and so loudly at one point, in some native dialect.
He was limping. About 25 years of age. He had cataracts on one of his eyes. I wanted to see what this guy was upto (I had no choice, he was sitting RIGHT IN FRONT of me).
Note: The two fellows who tried to steal my sleep were also sitting on the side seats next to me, giving me akward smiles every 20 minutes.

This new guy, he prepares some paan, starts chewing them, takes out a bunch of vegetables and starts cutting them on the floor at one corner. While he is doing that, I see his hands are cut here, there - everywhere and plastered with old yellow bandages and I wonder what on earth has he been upto?

While cutting, every 180 seconds , he spits on the corner he is sitting at making a huge noise. Somehow he manages to cut himself yet another time on one of his fingers and that answers my question as he applies some more dressing to it.

After about 20 minutes of cutting and mixing along with some really bad singing, he puts it all in a basket and starts hawking "Channa Masalaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa lelo lelo...."

and I go - WHAAAAAAAT???? He is gonna sell all that to someone else?

Well! I'm still not complaining. Why would I? I didn't buy it. Right?

One of the things I would really cherish is the countryside. we read so much about it in poems and yet when you actually see it, it still amazes you. Madhya Pradesh border and Uttar Pradesh had some really lush green fields.

I made friends with a certain dude, from Jamnagar(I think), his name I forgot. Simple, Honest guy. Too bad I forgot his name! He told me a little stuff I needed to know about the place I was heading to. He looked like he was alone, which comforted me - Kool! I am not the only freak travelling alone! But before I could think further, he told me he was with a friend! Great!

6 days of my life on the Indian Railways- The final Chapter

Allahabad station was huge and wide. Creating a good impression about the city outside. I spent 3-4 hours in the station itself, getting fresh and charging cellphones and stuff. I had decided to stay at the waiting room. All the while I was hogged by an autoricksaw fellow -

"Aap kahan se ho saabji? Chandigarh hain na? Dekh khe hi pata chal jata hain hum logon ko. Aap Chandigarh se ho..ap ko saste main ek kamra dhikhadu? sirf 120/-night "
(Where are you from? Chandigarh? Im sure you are from Chandigarh, we can tell pretty easily. You want me to find you a cheap place to stay?)

And I had a tough time trying to shoo him away.

Finally after realising that I was not allowed to go inside the waiting hall, I approached a good man (authority) called Akhilesh (Helping nature comes with the name I guess:) who helped me find a good safe place to stay there.

I walked barely 50 feet from the station to the hotel and I saw so much of Allahabad! More ecological balance. This time with cows. Sleeping on the road everywhere I looked. I am used to seeing cows on the road, but not like this even in my exaggerated imaginations.

I also saw weirdly shaped autos, which carried about 20 people at a time packed inside like a city bus. I saw some liquid or semi liquid poured on the road in huge quantities and which seemed to bother no one!

The hotel I checked into, gave me a room with a double bed for the prize of single bed rooms, because I asked for single and they didnt have any. All smiling and contented. I had the best sleep in many nights.

What happened when I was there?
Well, I saw the Sangam. The Allahabad fort. Remember, if somebody asks 200 bucks for a job or thing over there, you can pass 20 bucks to him and still be cheated.
I saw a great deal of "Allahabad Selection centre East" which people like to call the "Allahabad rejection centre East" (No ire intended).
I saw people. Lots and lots of people.
I saw only 5 girls in the entire city. FIVE GIRLS!! I was there for 6 days. It's not even one girl per day.
I started realising how pretty chicks from my town back home actually were! *Sniff* Maybe it was the air..or the water. Who cares. They are pretty!

I also realised that I was the only son of my parents which is why my stay at Allahabad and my dream was halted with a screech.(It's normal if you didn't understand the last line)

After all the sight seeing and enlightenment I was ready to get back.

------------------------------------------------

I wanna point out that even though I have broken up the story into 4 parts, it has indeed turned out to be a really long post, especially one that you might not really be that interested in reading at all. But, you should know it was longer before and I rewrote it from the beginning just so that I can get it out of the way.
(Rubs reveals my long posts irritate her).

Keeping all that in mind, I wouldn't wanna write about the other half of my journey. Mainly because I found my journey onwards much more interesting. Journey back was just the same but only uneventful and monotonous.

I just want everyone to know that there is no place like our Home :)
The cleanest, the greenest. The best. I am not saying this because its our place, but because I have seen the others.

It was just an irony for me that for the first 22 years of my life, I wouldn't see more than 3 cities of my state. And when I do actually leave my state, I do it alone and I see a huge part of India.

It was one Helluva experience! But I am glad I am back.
